I have been obsessed with film for as long as I can remember. The first film I saw in the cinema was ET, I must have been about 3 years old. I remember being fascinated by the images and story on the screen, and I am told that I was inconsolable when ET died. From this moment I was drawn into the world of cinema and its representations of our (and other) worlds.
I studied journalism for 5 years and completed my M.Phil in Film Theory and History in 2008. I have been working freelance for Movies Plus (M+) magazine since 2003, and our sister site Movies.ie since 2008, and have met some amazing people, done interviews, written and subedited articles, and have some interesting stories to tell from behind the scenes.
I have a BA (Hons) in Journalism and Visual Media from Griffith College Dublin and an M.Phil in Film Theory and History from University of Dublin, Trinity College.
I am currently the assistant editor of Movies.ie, and create content for the site and our sister magazine Movies Plus (M+).
As well as this, I write on a freelance basis for Geek Syndicate and I contribute to film and movie show We Love Movies on Spin 103.8 radio. I am co-founder of the vlog Why So Serious?, write and maintain my own site Hayes at the Movies and am a member of the Dublin Film Critics Circle.
In the past I worked for Culch.ie, Filmoria, Film Ireland and One More Robot Magazine and have been a guest contributor on The Last Word with Matt Cooper on Today FM and The Juice on FM104. As well as this, I worked with the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2011 in the area of Programming and worked as Materials Co-ordinator with Eclipse Pictures.
I recently co-wrote season four of Uploaded, broadcast on 3e in late 2012.
I want to use the skills I have in the area of film journalism as well as to broaden these competencies and gain new experience in this area.
